Man United players hungry to learn from Amorim: Casemiro

Manchester United’s Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has said that the players are hungry to learn from new manager Ruben Amorim, who is expected to arrive in Britain on Monday to start the daunting task of reviving the struggling club. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s four-match reign as interim United boss ended with a 3-0 Premier League victory against Leicester on Sunday — a third win in four matches since Erik ten Hag was sacked. Casemiro is looking forward to working with the new coach “He [Amorim] is very true, very loyal,” Casemiro said after the win against Leicester. Also Read: ‘Show your teeth’ Casemiro “We cannot ignore how he has changed Sporting [Lisbon]. We know that Sporting has won many titles. He has changed the club with titles, with trophies. He has already proved that he’s a coach that has won a lot. There is going to be a good template that everyone wants to grow, everyone wants to learn. That’s the way to first help us grow to be at the top of the table,” said Casemiro. Amorim, 39, will be unable to lead coaching sessions until his work permit is granted, but he is allowed at United’s Carrington training ground for meetings, and talks with Van Nistelrooy will be high on his agenda. Former striker Nistelrooy returned to Old Trafford in July as one of Ten Hag’s assistants on a deal until 2026 and has been open about his desire to stay. Amorim’s first match will be against Ipswich on November 24. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Arsenal’s Gabrielle Martinelli (right) celebrates scoring against Chelsea on Sunday

‘Show your teeth’

Mikel Arteta urged Arsenal to “show their teeth” after his side’s “nightmare” run culminated in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea that dealt a fresh blow to their Premier League title hopes on Sunday. Arteta’s team blew the lead given to them by Gabriel Martinelli’s second-half strike as Pedro Neto’s superb long-range equaliser extended Arsenal’s winless run to four league games. With only three wins in their last nine league matches, the fourth-placed Gunners are languishing nine points behind leaders Liverpool. Arsenal’s unexpected malaise comes after two successive runners-up finishes in the title race. Pics/AFP Arteta still believes they can get back in the title race, as long as they show the nastier side of their personality. Asked what Arsenal need to do to close the gap on Liverpool, the Gunners boss said: “Win, win and win. That is what we have to do. There is nothing we can change about our position right now. When it gets nasty, show your teeth and show how much you want it. When you are in Disneyland, everything is beautiful and everyone is nice to you. When it gets dark and difficult, that’s the time to show your courage.” Arteta has been hampered by injuries to Martin Odegaard, Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka among others, with a rash of red cards also unsettling his side early in the season. Odegaard has finally returned from the ankle problem that kept him out of Arteta’s starting line-up since August 31. The influential captain started against Chelsea and provided a sublime pass for Martinelli’s goal in an encouraging sign for Arteta, who is keeping his fingers crossed that everyone returns healthy from the international break. “I’m just going to pray that after the international break I have all my players available.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Leaders Barcelona stunned as Lewandowski goal is disallowed

La Liga leaders Barcelona fell to a 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on Sunday night as they had a Robert Lewandowski goal controversially disallowed, with coach Hansi Flick labelling the decision a “big mistake”.  Sheraldo Becker’s 33rd-minute goal consigned Barcelona to their second league defeat of the season, leaving the Catalan giants six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, having played an extra match. Lewandowski’s early disallowed strike led to furious debate over whether the Polish forward was offside or no. ‘Maybe another team deserves this title’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said that it’s probably time for another team to win the trophy after his side’s four-year run of Premier League titles, suggesting their dominance as champions may be ending, following their 1-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night. This was Guardiola’s fourth straight loss in all competitions for the first time in his managerial career. The defeat ensured second-place City, who have won six of the past seven Premier League titles, including four in a row, missed the chance to go top and now sit five points behind the leaders Liverpool. “Maybe after seven years winning six Premier Leagues, one year another team deserve it,” Guardiola told BBC Sport. Also Read: Bruno shines as Utd rout Leicester Man City boss Pep Guardiola Erling Haaland had given City a deserved lead in the first half, but they were pegged back by another substitute in Joao Pedro in the 78th minute. O’Riley then piled the misery on the visitors with a composed finish five minutes later, ensuring Fabian Hurzeler’s side came out on top. The result came against the backdrop of six senior absences for the Blues through injury in Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish, John Stones and Ruben Dias plus the long-term absentees of Ballon d’Or winner Rodrigo and Oscar Bobb. “Results can be similar. The point is we don’t have the players. All four central defenders are injured. Rodri, the best player, is not there. De Bruyne away from his best. Doku injured, Jack injured. In one game we can do it but to be consistent we cannot. The second half can use Manu, Nathan and Ruben,” post-match press conference. “Last moments to change the game we can use Doku. Don’t misunderstand me, it looks like I’m complaining about the players we played but we played really good. But to play previous seasons we had the squad. Now we don’t have it. We have to survive with that. We have to live with that,” he said. Guardiola, whoever, believes the return of several of his first teamers, boosted by a break in domestic action during the international break, will herald a change in fortunes for his side. “I will reflect in these 10 days, clear our heads, players come back fit, this is the target. When the players come back, I’d like to play the level of the first half. Today was a really good first half. The level we’re playing is good in certain moments, but we’re unable to continue for long. I’m sure when the players come back, they can make some individual qualities on the team and we’ll be back,” said Guardiola. After the international break, City will host Tottenham in the EPL, then Feyenoord in the Champions League. Manchester City’s last four match results  . Man United’s Bruno Fernandes celebrates his goal v Leicester

Bruno shines as Utd rout Leicester

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes marked his 250th appearance for the club in style with a brilliant solo goal against Leicester on Sunday. The Portugal international, presented with a framed shirt before kick-off in the Premier League match at Old Trafford, ran onto a back-heel from Amad Diallo and curled a low shot past Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen in the 17th minute. He scored a second with a deflected effort off Victor Kristiansen in the 38th. Both sparked wild celebrations from the home fans, who chanted “Bruno” as Fernandes was congratulated by his teammates. Garnacho (82nd min) netted the third goal for United.  Also Read: Liverpool manager Slot believes five-point gap atop EPL is small Fernandes has scored 84 goals in all competitions since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020. Liverpool manager Slot believes five-point gap atop EPL is small

Liverpool opened up a five-point lead at the top of the EPL as Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah struck in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday night. Arne Slot’s men were defensively solid to protect a sixth clean sheet in 11 league games and take a firm grip on the title race.  “We have a margin but it’s small. Many challenges to come for us,” said Slot.  Also Read: Malabar Hill Snooker: Easy win for Bajaj Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister conceded that even he was not sure if the Reds could challenge for the title. “If we are top of the league by five points, it means something. If you asked me before the season started I would not say we were candidates but now it looks like we are,” said the Argentine international.  Interestingly, the Anfield crowd was all up by news of Man City’s 1-2 defeat at Brighton moments earlier.  Liverpool though were then dealt a blow as Trent Alexander-Arnold hobbled off with a muscle injury that is likely to rule him out of England duty in the coming weeks. ISL: Nine-man East Bengal hold Mohammedan to draw, earn first point of season

Mohammedan Sporting Club and East Bengal FC played out a 0-0 draw at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Saturday. It was a fixture with plenty of missed opportunities and bookings throughout the ninety minutes. Despite all odds, East Bengal FC with nine men held their nerve and secured their first point in the season.  It was a slow start from both the teams, especially East Bengal FC, who allowed Mohammedan SC to take the lion’s share of the possession and were looking to hit on counter-attacks. Oscar Bruzon’s men also held a very high defence line to catch their opposition forwards offside. They were successful in the first 15 minutes as Franca mistimed his runs and was caught offside. However, there were a few moments of concern for the East Bengal FC defenders once the Brazilian got used to the high line. Courtesy of his relentless running, he created a couple of opportunities in the first 20 minutes but on both occasions, Prabhsukhan Gill stood in his way. At the half-hour mark when Nandhakumar Sekar was given marching orders for being violent after his shirt was tugged by Amarjit Singh Kiyam. Minutes later, Naorem Mahesh Singh also received his second yellow card for dissent, reducing East Bengal to only nine men with over an hour to play in the match. Mohammedan started the second half similarly as they bombarded the East Bengal FC penalty area with crosses from both flanks. The strategy almost paid off minutes into the second half when Zodingliana Ralte’s cross from the left found Bikash Singh unmarked in the box. However, the youngster failed to make the right connection on the ball as it sailed wide. As the match progressed, Chernyshov saw his side missing some glaring chances with the match ending in a stalemate. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Vinicius nets hat-trick as Real Madrid crush Osasuna 4-0

Vinicius Junior scored a hat-trick to help Real Madrid bounce back from two consecutive home defeats with a 4-0 win over Osasuna in La Liga on Saturday.  Hammered by Barcelona in a league Clasico and then outplayed by AC Milan in the Champions League, Carlo Ancelotti’s side badly needed this confidence-boosting victory at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish and European champions thrashed Osasuna thanks to Vinicius’ treble, while Jude Bellingham scored his first goal of the season for Los Blancos. However Madrid’s superstar striker Kylian Mbappe failed to find the net again and has scored one goal in his last seven matches.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. ISL: Mumbai City FC hold Chennaiyin 1-1

Mumbai City FC rode on left-back Nathan Rodrigues’ strike to hold Chennaiyin FC 1-1 in a thrilling draw in the Indian Super League here on Saturday. Captain Ryan Edwards opened the scoring for Chennaiyin after an hour of gritty play. However their joy was short-lived as Rodrigues levelled the scores three minutes later in the milestone 1,000th contest of the ISL. Both teams had to wait until the subsequent half to score their respective goals.  The Marina Machans moved from seventh to fourth in the standings with 12 points, while the Islanders remained at eighth spot with 10 points.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. ISL: Ajaraie makes history as NorthEast United, Bengaluru FC split points

NorthEast United FC held Bengaluru FC to an enthralling 2-2 draw at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season tonight. Despite the quick start, the Highlanders had to return home with a solitary point from the match.  Alaaeddine Ajaraie netted twice in the first quarter, becoming the fastest player to reach the mark of 10 goals in the ISL (in eight matches). Alberto Noguera pulled one back for Bengaluru FC in between. Later, substitute Ryan Williams came up with the equaliser to split points between the two teams. Both teams settled into the game quickly and gradually exerted their authority in midfield. But the visitors struck first blow in the eighth minute when Ajaraie handed the Highlanders an early lead from a counter-attack. The Moroccan caught the Bengaluru FC defenders off guard as he latched onto Dinesh Singh’s superb long ball. He was through on goal and showed no signs of nerves in slotting the ball past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in goal. Bengaluru FC levelled the score in the 11th minute, proving why they are the table-toppers of the ongoing season. Following a long throw, NorthEast United FC failed to clear their lines properly, and the ball fell in Noguera’s path. Noguera pulled the trigger from a distance and nestled the ball into the top corner, giving Gurmeet Singh no chance between the sticks. Also Read: AUS vs PAK 2nd ODI: Mohammad Rizwan levels world record in ODI However, the parity didn’t last long as the Highlanders wrestled back their lead in the 14th minute. It all started with Jithin M.A. closing down Gurpreet for a stray ball. The custodian’s clearance got ricocheted off Jithin and fell right in Ajaraie’s path, who made no mistake in losing his marker and slotting it home in front of a gaping goal, recording his 11th strike of the season. NorthEast United FC started the second half exactly like the first with full intensity and high pressing. Minutes later, Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Edgar Mendez combined for Bengaluru FC with the latter coming up with a strange effort on goal. It was almost sneaking in when Gurmeet kept it out with a fine save. The NorthEast United FC custodian was called to action again when Suresh Singh released Diaz on the right and the Argentine pulled the trigger from long range. It was a brilliant move but Gurmeet Singh made sure the visitors held onto their lead. However, with every attack, the hosts felt like scoring the equaliser as they gradually gained momentum in the second period. Looking at this, Gerard Zaragoza decided to bring on Ryan Williams to add more teeth to the frontline and the Australian winger turned out to be a super sub for his team. Williams with his first touch found the much-anticipated equaliser for Bengaluru FC in the 70th minute. He slotted the ball home from Mohammed Salah’s cross to bring the Blues right back into the game. The final quarter was dominated by the hosts as they attacked the NorthEast United FC penalty area with runs and crosses. However, Juan Pedro Benali’s men did enough to salvage a point from this fixture. Bengaluru FC will travel to Kolkata after the international break to face Mohammedan SC on November 27 whereas NorthEast United GC will visit New Delhi to face Punjab FC on November 23. Ruud is too good!

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana said that players want interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay with the club ahead of the arrival of long-term boss Ruben Amorium. Van Nistelrooy was given the interim charge of the team following the sacking of Erik ten Hag and under his rein United are unbeaten in the last three games including their first win in Europe in a year as United defeated PAOK 2-0 at Old Trafford in Europa League on Friday. Also Read: City look to end mini slump against Brighton Andre Onana However, Van Nistelrooy’s short-stint will only last till Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City at home with a new manager set to join the side.  Meanwhile, United players want the former club striker Van Nistelrooy to remain part of the club’s restructured management team. “100%. He’s a very good guy, a very good coach. He has so much experience and he advises us a lot,” Onana told TNT Sports.  “It’s fantastic wwhat he’s doing and the players are happy. But at the end of the day, it’s not something we can decide. The club make the decision and we have to accept it,” he added. Europa League: Galatasaray down Spurs  Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray inflicted a first Europa League defeat of the season on Tottenham to move top of the table with a 3-2 victory in Istanbul on Thursday. The Turkish champions have 10 points from four games and have all but secured qualification for at least the knock-out play-off round, while Spurs sit in fifth place after losing their 100-percent record. Galatasaray took an early lead when Yunus Akgun smashed a sensational long-range volley into the top corner of the net in the sixth minute.  This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies.
